In Repair

    by Phoebe Brown

I want to live

on the edge

of a circle.  Plant

a garden of snapdragons,

cosmos, zinnias, and sunflowers.  Safe inside

their petals

where monarchs grow

amidst the chaos.

I want the strength

of a mangrove.

Stretch my roots into

sand and rock and shell,

remain steady

during hurricanes.

I want to rest

in the cowboy blue sky.

Gallop along

the clouds.

I must move my truth—

I want to live

inside a happiness.

I am

in repair.
