And Yet
And yet
through chemical pathways
and caffeinated dreams,
an overzealous love affair begins.
Through endless days
and fearful nights,
through split-second decisions
and life-long consequences,
the dream continues.
Through hurried office visits
and redundant paperwork,
through unexpected hassles
and sleepy phone calls,
momentum persists.
Upon looking in the mirror
amongst the wrinkles and grey hair,
a face ten years older than expected,
you still awake every morning
with a bounce in your step
and a thousand plans for the day.
And yet
the inexplicable belief remains
even more clear than when you chose this journey:
What an utter, utter privilege
to be a physician!
